Through Ryan’s Run, Sickle Cell Association of South Louisiana (SCASL) looks to promote education and awareness for those living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Sickle Cell is a painful genetic blood disorder impacting more than 100,000 people in the United States. With 2.5 million carrying the trait, it is the most commonly inherited blood disorder in the country. Newborns can be tested at birth, but others can be tested through a blood test. Last year marked 45 YEARS of the Association’s service for several parishes in the state of Louisiana.
We appreciate your interest in bringing more awareness to sickle cell disease and individuals living with the disease. When you host a Sickle Cell Association of South Louisiana (SCASL) fundraiser, you are helping continue our mission to provide care coordination and assistance to our Sickle Cell Warriors. You can do several options as a fundraiser, including a blood drive, town hall, gather a team during our Ryan’s Run/Walk 5 K, collect PowerAde or Gatorade for our Fountain of Health hydration program, create a Facebook donation, or host a dinner. We are also open to other suggestions. If you have an idea, shoot it our way. We would love to work with you.
